The Sexual Revolution: A reckoning
The next event is the last event of the year, it will be held at Moyas Juniper Lounge (there are $10 negronis all afternoon and live jazz from 6pm). The start time has moved to 4pm so there is time to discuss the topic before the band comes on, but people are welcome to stay and socialise all evening.
I will ask some people who have strong opinions on this topic to come along, but there is no formal speaker, just a lively discussion. If you haven’t already read or heard Louise Perry summarise her book The Case Against the Sexual Revolution, I would strongly recommend you do. A good starting point would be her interviews on the Subversive and Modern Wisdom podcasts. Reading the work of other reactionary feminists like Mary Harrington, Nina Power and other fairerdisputations.org writers would also be a good grounding for the case against the sexual revolution. For the counter narrative you might want to read Australian Spectator, Penthouse and Maxim sex columnist Vanessa de Largie. I also really like the Quillette sex columnist Dr. Marilyn Simon, who is still probably my favourite writer there.
Tickets can be booked below.
As mentioned above, this is the last event for the year. All Minus One will break for December and return for the annual Australia Day celebration to be announced in the new year.
Reminder: Changes to Event Pricing
There is going to be a change to the structure of this page and the pricing of events. Previously All Minus One has been a member subscription, with the idea of being a private member’s club. The code to attend events has been hidden to non-subscribers. From today all “All Minus One” events will be by cash donation of people’s choosing. You will see a tab on the home page for events organised by All Minus One. This will also be up on Eventbrite and elsewhere.
There will also be a new tab, the content behind this will be paywalled. It is called “All Plus One” this will be a newsletter of events that people on this page would likely be interested in and want to attend together.
People are welcome to change their subscription to the new price / model if you would like.
A big thank you to everyone that has subscribed to All Minus One for the last few years. We have had a lot of very successful events. Your contributions have “kept the lights on” so to speak and ensured costs are covered for events.
Regards,
Dara
